Between wearable sculpture, artistic gesture and intimate object, BIJOUX COUTURE & D’ARTISTES #4 explores the multiple languages of jewelry. The jewel breaks free from mere ornament to become a gesture, a bias or an assumed fantasy. Each piece tells a story – that of an artist’s eye, a dialogue with material, a moment of freedom on the body.
CATHERINE LE GAL creates contemporary jewelry on the border between art and sculpture, imbued with a playful dimension. Often composed of small mobiles and articulated elements, her creations accompany the body’s movements. Gold leaf, bright colors, free forms: each asserts a singular presence. Catherine Le Gal was one of the artists featured in Naila De Monbrison’ s gallery on rue de Bourgogne, alongside Marcial Berro and ethnic jewelry.
ALINA ALAMOREAN dresses bodies, wrists and fingers in a fluid, architectural way, with total freedom of expression, where imagination and respect for the materials and objects that inspire her are the only things that count. More than mere ornaments, her creations propose a different relationship to the body and to gesture. In her own words: “I don’t want to decorate anyone, I just want to instill another way of living, breathing and thinking.
CHRISTIANE BILLET, a sculptor by training, sees jewelry as an extension of the body, almost architectural. Bronze, silver and stone are worked in a constant tension between strength and organicity. Each piece is conceived as a portable, autonomous sculpture, yet deeply inhabited by movement. Her work has led to collaborations with Rick Owens, and her jewelry is regularly worn by Michèle Lamy, the emblematic figure of this radical, performative universe.
CHRISTIAN ASTUGUEVIEILLE, a jack-of-all-trades designer, blurs the boundaries between art, design and jewelry. His dreamlike creations borrow from the primitive arts, ritual and talisman, with an assumed freedom. The jewel becomes a narrative object, charged with symbolism and discreet humor.
Creations by SIDNEY CARRON, VAN DER STRAETEN, AVATAR ZONE and ZOLOTA extend this vision of artist’s jewelry, each bringing their own singular vision, between formal rigor and creative freedom. Not forgetting a remarkable jade Buddha by CARTIER.
The sale also brings together jewelry from iconic houses: HERMÈS, with numerous silver bracelets; CHRISTIAN DIOR by JOHN GALLIANO – several Massaï necklaces and an imposing breastplate made of oblong horn and wood beads -; CHANEL, YVES SAINT LAURENT, CHRISTIAN LACROIX, alongside Italians VERSACE, GIANFRANCO FERRE and KRIZIA, or the parurier GOOSSENS.
Jewelry is undoubtedly the most immediate and impactful accessory. Easy to wear, it instantly transforms a look, creates a sense of discrepancy, authorizes boldness or restraint. A space for freedom, expression and play.
